Introduction
Abandoned cart emails help you recover lost sales. As soon as someone leaves products in their cart without checking out, you automatically send a friendly reminder. Available for WooCommerce (using the Xendy plugin).
What is an abandoned cart email automation?
A preconfigured workflow that automatically sends emails to contacts with an abandoned cart. The emails display the abandoned products and include a CTA to resume checkout immediately.
Requirements (short)
- WooCommerce connected to Xendy.
- Xendy plugin active in WordPress and connected with your Xendy token.
Create an abandoned cart automation
- Go to ‘Email automations’ in the left menu and click ‘New automation’ in the top right.
- Choose ‘From a new segment’ and create a dynamic segment with the following filter rules:
- Field: Customer has abandoned cart
- Condition: Equals
- Value: Yes
- Choose ‘Immediate’ (so new cases are included right away) and give the automation a name, e.g. ‘Abandoned cart email automation’.
Adding emails to the workflow
After creating the automation, click on ‘Step 1: add an email’. You can choose from:
- Blank email: create a completely new email without blocks.
- Select template: copy an existing template from ‘Templates’ in the left menu.
- Select draft: move an email from your drafts into this automation.
After creating the email, add an ‘Abandoned cart block’. Click the ‘plus icon’ on the left, select ‘Products’ and choose this block. This block automatically shows the abandoned items and a ‘Checkout button’ that restores the cart.
Common structure
- Email 1 (after 1–3 hours): reminder + product list + checkout button.
- Email 2 (after 1 day): soft incentive (e.g. 10% off or free shipping) + checkout button.
- Email 3 (after 2–3 days): last chance / low stock / offer ending.
Use the plus/minus icons between steps to set delays (hours/days).
Activating and managing the automation
- Click ‘Start’ to activate; you can pause via ‘Stop’.
- In ‘Settings’ you can adjust the checking time and revenue attribution, among other options.
Viewing statistics
Select ‘Email automations’ in the left menu and click on the automation for which you want to view statistics to open it.
After opening, you will see the different steps, with per step the following statistics:
- Queue: the number of scheduled emails that will be sent in the future, for example due to a delay setting (send after 3 days).
- Sent: total number of delivered emails.
- Opened: number of unique recipients who opened your email.
- Clicks: number of clicks on a link within the email.
- Unsubscribed: number of contacts who unsubscribed via the unsubscribe link in the email.
